Your Business and The Jesus Model…

the Jesus Model

the Jesus Model

OK, so right off the bat some of you may not vibe with this simply because of the title.
But hey, if that’s you and you clicked anyway… that’s something right?

So for the sake of the conversation, for a moment, put aside any hesitations you may
have and simply look at the core principles I’m about to present to you.

First of all, you may be asking… What Is the Jesus Model?
And more importantly… What Does This Have to Do With Network Marketing?

Well…….. EVERYTHING.

My inspiration for this post comes from a recent Tweet from
Rick Warren; author of The Purpose Driven Life.

I’m going to try to keep this somewhat brief in my own explanation because I would really love to get a conversation going here with community feedback.

OK, so here is the Jesus Model in a nutshell:

Jesus…
LOVED everyone.
FED 5,000.
TRAINED 70.
DISCIPLED 12.
MENTORED 3.

Are you starting to see the picture?
Let’s look at each component a little closer.

LOVE
Wow – revolutionary right? But seriously, think about that and let it sink in for a minute. No really let it sink in. What would your business look like if you truly loved the people you were doing business with? Or, what would your business look like if you “loved on” your prospects and leads? This is how Wayne Hillman, the founder of Life Force International refers to what we do in this industry… “Love Sharing.”

This is a sharp contrast to some of the cold methodologies and mindset teaching that has been propagated throughout this industry. And notice that Jesus applied this EVERYONE. It’s not reserved just for the ones that agree with you, say YES to your opportunity, like your product, subscribe to your list, do what it is YOU expect them to do in your organization or that contribute to your bank account growing. It’s for everyone.

FED or FEED
If you aren’t familiar with the biblical story, one day Jesus retreated to the dessert and was followed by a mass of people, 5000 so the story goes. At some point late in the day Jesus takes 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread and feeds the entire crowd with food to spare after everyone had eaten their fill.

There are many points one could take here, but for the purpose of this discussion I would like to use it to illustrate the power and reach that each of us has. It doesn’t matter how much or how little we have or know, our efforts and interaction with the people we meet and those we do business with can and indeed will affect our circle of influence and beyond. We simply must be willing to do what we can with what we have at the time. Doing so in a consistent manner, will multiply that effort many times beyond what we can conceive is possible.

Question…
What would your business look like today with 5000 people in your organization?

TRAINED
This is so important and getting closer to the core values in this little lesson.
70. Jesus trained 70. His teaching, methodologies, inspiration, strategies….. His Marketing
directly impacted 70 people responsible for continuing the work.

This is easy… Look at how your business really operates. There are going to be a group of people that DO THE WORK. Identify them. Connect with them. Engage them. TRAIN THEM.

DISCIPLINED
{ DISCIPLE – n. ~ One who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of another.}

Jesus had 12 diciples. A core group of leaders he focused on to help TRAIN the other leaders in the church. This core group was in essence the management for the organization.

Who are your diciples? Who are your CORE team leaders? It’s going to be small group. We all know the statistics that explain this. They may or may not be directly sponsored by you. In fact they may be several levels down. But when they appear you’ll know it. These are the leaders, the business builders, that so many networking conversations allude to. These are the main group of people who will be responsible for growth in your organization.

MENTORED
3 people – That’s it.
These 3 were taken under his wing and personally mentored and had a very special relationship with Jesus. They were responsible for the majority of the growth of the church.

Now pay special attention here… 3. Out of the 70 he trained to one extent or another, and the 12 he dicipled, there were 3 (4%) that were at the absolute core of the organization and where the majority of the relationship was cultivated.

This is just how our business will look. You’ll find that a select few, your “rock stars,” will be responsible for upwards of 90% of the growth of your business – with or without your help. These are the leaders you want to pay close attention to and empower them with everything you have to offer. This is the 3% as the popular statistics describe, that will make your business wildly successful.

That’s it…. the Jesus Model in a nutshell.

I hope that you can take this and apply it to your business in a positive, impactful way.
And next time you’re out there doing what you do, ask yourself…..
What Would Jesus Do?

Live Long & Prosper…

Nice! Where have I seen this before?

Networking is a powerful thing…dating back as far as I know. The wise person will use this knowledge to their advantage in the new age of business we are currently in. The internet allows us to network on “speed”…but never forget the personal touch or the impact true unconditional love can have! :-)

  3. I love this.

  4. Linda S says:

This was an excellent simile, which I appreciated! Well done!

  5. Joyce Penner says:

Excellent Richard. I’ve heard many times that Jesus was the greatest networker but never looked at the numbers and how they broke down so precisely.
    Thanks !

That’s a great comparison, even 2000 years ago the numbers were the same.
just looking for diamonds in the rough to turn into gems.

    • Steve , hey man glad t see you here.
Yeas … it kind of trippy don’t you think how the numbers transpire through time as they have.
This was a fun piece to write for sure.
      Cheers!

  7. Richard:

Great post, and full of truth. Another point you could make is that in one of the Gospels we are told that there were 5000 men PLUS women and children. Just think, the possibility of 5000 in your organization will not come alone but will bring probably double or triple that number with them!

    • Thanks Diane.
This was a special post for me … albeit inspired by Rick Warren’s material, it was a very interesting piece to research and write.
      I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  8. Dee Light says:

Now this would be a great formula for preventing burnout—yes? And a good formula for excellence & efficiency. This will stay in my mind. Cute how you started the blog too, “thats something, right?”
Thank you for more good stuff!

  9. David Paul says:

This is a brilliant illustration, Richard, and one that really helps me to see the Process of Becoming and Developing that needs to take place. It interesting to note that my personal self-talk, the message I give myself 300-400 times per day says, “I AM enthusiastically and freely giving unconditional love, top notch training and the power of the mastermind to anyone who raises their hand.” It just fits right in, and I am grateful to know that you and I think so much alike.

To your continued peace and prosperity,

  10. I have always told people that Network Marketing is the business model that Jesus taught and used for his ministry here on earth. This lays it out perfectly. The other thing that I love about what Jesus did is that he ‘invited’ people to join him in his work. Never explained, convinced, or forced people. The true power of the greatest networker the world has ever seen.

  11. Im a huge fan already, man. Youve done a brilliant job making sure that people understand where youre coming from. And let me tell you, I get it. Great stuff and I cant wait to read more of your blogs. What youve got to say is important and needs to be read.

  12. Deana says:

Richard I just loved this article! Very inspiring and very enlightening when it comes to how networking really is no different the the relationships we develop…like Jesus. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! :)

  13. Hai Kamer says:

Woah! Im really digging the template/theme of this site. Its simple, yet effective. A lot of times its difficult to get that perfect balance between usability and visual appeal. I must say that youve done a excellent job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very quick for me on Chrome. Superb Blog!
