More than any time in human history business owners have an opportunity to engage with a global marketplace that breaches the barriers, borders, vast oceans, cultural differences, social levels and geographical obstacles that have historically limited small business owners and the solo entrepreneur.
As an entrepreneur in today’s marketplace you must learn how to plant your business on good ground, fertile ground, to maximize efficiency, profits and value in the eyes of your customers and partners. Today’s entrepreneur must focus on protecting their business and creating systematic processes for generating a bountiful harvest year after year.
In a world connected by social media, multimedia and mass media distribution it is paramount for entrepreneurs to not just be aware of this, but to exert conscious effort, allocate energy and resources towards and implement a strategic plan to shape and grow the seed of your efforts and where that seed is falling.
3 “Listen! A farmer went to plant seed. 4 Some seeds were planted along the road, and birds came and devoured them. 5 Other seeds were planted on rocky ground, where there wasn’t much soil. The plants sprouted quickly because the soil wasn’t deep. 6 When the sun came up, they were scorched. They didn’t have any roots, so they withered. 7 Other seeds were planted among thornbushes. The thornbushes grew up and choked them, and they didn’t produce anything. 8 But other seeds were planted on good ground, sprouted, and produced thirty, sixty, or one hundred times as much as was planted.”
In the same way our marketing efforts, social capital, network, daily actions and mindset are seeds that grow our business.
In the realm of growing fresh food, heirloom seeds are among the most desirable and highly valued seeds. These are seeds that are pure and strong with a rich heritage for producing “good fruit.” The best of the best, cultivated over generations of crop with love and care.
As entrepreneurs, farmers of capitalism, we must cultivate heirloom seeds for our business and seek fertile ground to plant them in.
Think Of Your Marketing Materials …
Would you consider them “heirloom seeds?” Do those seeds accurately represent YOU in the market place? If a prospect, lead or customer or potential business partner encounters your marketing seed in the marketplace, are they getting an accurate picture of you and your business? Are they experiencing the message you want them to experience?
Think Of Your Daily Actions …
Are you doing the things that produce the best fruit? As a replicable action are these things that could be seen as “heirloom seeds” – the best of the best action steps that produce a bountiful harvest for your business season after season?
Think Of Your Social Capital …
Are you planting heirloom seeds in the market place that represent you as a professional, as a valuable business owner, as an entrepreneur, as a person that has heirloom seed, “the best of the best” to offer your customers in the marketplace? Are they seeds that you are proud of, seeds that cultivate trust, professionalism and integrity?
Think Of Your Network …
Are you investing your time, precious time, with people that feed you on all levels? Are you cultivating win-win relationships? Are you germinating “heirloom” relationships? Or are you planting seeds based on relationships that will be scorched, swallowed up and have no depth?
Think Of Your Soil …
Where are you sowing your seeds? Where are you marketing your business? Who are you targeting? Do you have any idea where your seed is falling? Do you have any idea which is producing the best fruit? Use your metrics and conversion data to identify the most fertile soil in your marketing and DO MORE OF THAT. Be there, plant there, focus on cultivating THAT soil.
Think Of Your Mindset …
Are you cultivating heirloom thoughts? Are you germinating a heritage of wealth, prosperity, integrity and abundance that can be sewed not only into the marketplace, but to your children, your friends, your family, and generations to come. Are you planting a farm (your legacy) that can be harvested long after you are gone from this world? Will that legacy provide sustenance & nourishment for those that consume it?
heirloom | heir·loom
1: a piece of property that descends to the heir as an inseparable part of an inheritance of real property
2: something of special value handed on from one generation to another
Everything we’ve covered here, our thoughts, our actions, our relationships, are all heirlooms that can be passed on to our team, our employees, our family. Seeds planted to grow the next generation of strong entrepreneurs that bear good fruit.
Jesus continued in the story saying “Let the person who has ears listen!”
I hope this story finds you on good ground today.
I hope that it sprouts in your heart and mind, and produces abundance, prosperity, wisdom and value, thirty, sixty, or one hundred times in your own life and business.
