ClickBank Link Tracking
I’ll try to keep this as pain free as possible.
This is actually a video segment in my training, but for now, here goes.
It may be a little mind numbing at first, but believe me, I can do all of this in about 5 minutes now.
It just takes practice. In fact the most time consuming part is market and keyword research.
OK then, this is precisely what I use …
a) I use Affiliate Prophet installed on a tracking domain.
This is just a domain I use for the purpose of redirects, cloaking, tracking links, etc.
I have several.
b) I run an Aff Spy or Split Test campaign. Right now the Split Test is my favorite.
Both campaigns allow for up to 3 products or unique URLs to be rotated within a single campaign. This really depends on the type of traffic you’ll be using. The Aff Spy campaign tends to work well with PPC/PPV campaigns, excluding Google, in which case I ran Split Test tracking links.
note: I don’t use Adwords any more.
c) I then setup a shell domain where I create subdomains to host the campaign file.
This again is a domain setup strictly for the purpose of passing visitors through my tracking path.
d) I setup one more level of tracking such as a Budurl account.
I started using Hootsuite a couple weeks ago and really like their tracking.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
So here’s an example campaign setup from start to finish …
To put it all together this is what I do … (It gets really quick the more you use it)
I’ll use this product … Alice In Wonderland Quotes
- I choose my product in the CB Marketplace, and get my url without using the TID.
{http://05ad81cxonrawqlk-7xwwl1y4k.hop.clickbank.net/} - I create the Split Test campaign in Affiliate Prophet.
This generates a URL like this {http://bravoads.com/affpro/go.php?uid=1&cid=92}**Oh, one more thing, I’ll create a cloaked link, which is also in Affiliate Prophet, which will kick out a link like this {http://bravoads.com/affpro/c/aliceinwonderland}
- I take the cloaked url that it generates and drop it into an iframe redirect file on the shell domain; either in a subdomain or a hyphenated keyword optimized sub directory.I work almost exclusively from cPanel using the File Manager interface.
Login to cPanel > Select File Manager > click on New Folder > double click the folder > click New File > name it index.html > select the file > click on Edit > Copy & Paste the code below directly into the screen.
In the area where it says “Your Content Here” you can either delete that text or fill it in for optimization purposes. I usually pull some text off the sales page of the product.
Where it says “Your Tracking URL Here” is where I put the Split Test link.
The keywords and description should be self explanatory.
This is the code for the index file: Just open a new text file, copy & paste this in and name the file index.html and save it on your desktop in your affiliate campaigns folder or where ever you are managing your stuff. I keep this as a swipe file so I do a quick copy and paste whenever I need it.
<html>
<head>
<title>YOUR TITLE HERE</title>
<meta name=”description” content=”YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE” />
<meta name=”keywords” content=”YOUR KEYWORDS HERE” />
</head><frameset rows = “100%”>
<frame src=”YOUR TRACKING URL HERE” frameborder=”0″ />
</frameset>
<noframes>
<p>YOUR TEXT CONTENT HERE
2 – 4 PARAGRAPHS OF KEYWORD RICH TEXT.</p>
</noframes></html>
4. Finally I create the Hootsuite URL.
So I’ll take my domain level URL, in this case I used a subdirectory {http://www.blurevu.com/alice-in-wonderland-quotes} and dumped it into Hotsuite, shortened it, which produces a link such as:
{http://ow.ly/16ctE} which I can now use on Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere else I want.
I like using these kinds of URLs for several reasons …
1st, I can use them in Twitter without creating any fuss. People are used to seeing them so they are more apt to click the link.
2nd, they add an extra level of tracking data to cross reference.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
OK, let’s see where we’re at …
We have our product picked out and out ClickBank URL.
We have out Split Test URL and corresponding Cloaked URL.
We created our iframe redirect file.
We generated a shortened general purpose link.
Now you have two tracking links that you can choose from at your discretion …
{http://www.blurevu.com/alice-in-wonderland-quotes}
{http://ow.ly/16ctE}
I think that’s it.
I may have to read over this again to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
(haven’t slept much lately
)
note: DO NOT USE THIS ON GOOGLE
This is not meant for Adwords. You Will Get Slapped.
This is for direct linking on engines like Bing & Yahoo, PPV and other alternative traffic sources.
alrighty then … I hope that helps.
***by the way that is my affiliate link for AffiliateProphet,
so if you like the tutorial and decide to buy, be a pal and buy it through my link.
Or if you’re feelin really generous, check out my Amazon Wishlist … just kidding! ![]()
Hope It Helps!

Nice post. Bit unclear on the iframe advantage though. Seems like a tech process without commensurate value… because I’m missing something.
What is the advantage of ow.ly over tr.im?
